S. Korea reviewing U.S. proposal on Strait of Hormuz: foreign ministry

SEOUL, May 5 (Xinhua) -- South Korea said Tuesday it was reviewing a U.S. proposal related to the Strait of Hormuz, taking into account principles such as freedom of navigation, according to the foreign ministry.

The ministry said the government has been in close communication with the United States over the stable use of major sea lanes, including the Strait of Hormuz, regarding the Freedom Project.

U.S. President Donald Trump said Sunday that the United States would begin guiding ships out of the Strait of Hormuz on Monday morning, describing the move, named Project Freedom, as a "humanitarian gesture."
