SEOUL, April 4 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's constitutional court began its ruling on the impeachment against the country's president Yoon Suk-yeol at 11 a.m. local time on Friday. The entire process was being broadcast live on television.
If six of the eight judges of the court vote in favor, the impeachment will be upheld, making Yoon the second president in South Korea's constitutional history to be removed from office. In that case, South Korea must hold a new presidential election within 60 days.
If fewer than six judges vote in favor, the impeachment will be rejected, and Yoon Suk-yeol will immediately resume his duties as president.
This final ruling comes 111 days after the impeachment motion was passed in the National Assembly on Dec. 14, 2024.
