TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran's men's table tennis team is on the verge of winning a medal at the Asian Games after 65 years.

Team Melli's Noshad and Nima Alamian defeated Japan 3-0 in the quarterfinals.

Iran will meet South Korea in the semifinals on Monday, while China play Singapore.

Iran had previously defeated Bahrain and Mongolia and lost to Hong Kong in Group E.

A record high of nearly 12,500 athletes from 45 countries and territories compete across 40 sports in the 2022 Asian Games.

Iran has sent 289 male and female athletes to the Games in 34 sports events.
