SANTIAGO -- A total of 25 people were killed in traffic accidents during Chile's annual "Fiestas Patrias" independence celebrations from Sept. 15 to 19, Chilean authorities reported Wednesday.

Eleven people died as a result of being run over, six from crashes, four from collisions and another four from overturning of vehicles, according to the report. (Chile-Traffic Accidents)

SYDNEY -- Police in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) said on Thursday that two people were injured overnight in a public place shooting.

At about 2:20 a.m. local time (0420 GMT) on Thursday, emergency services were called to Cassia Crescent in Gateshead, a suburb of the City of Lake Macquarie, after receiving reports of a shooting. (Australia-shooting-Injury)

SEOUL -- Cancer remained South Korea's top cause of death in 2022, statistical office data showed Thursday.

Cancer caused 162.7 deaths per 100,000 people here in 2022, up from 161.1 deaths in the previous year, according to Statistics Korea. It continued to rank first since relevant data began to be compiled in 1983. (South Korea-Cause-Death)
