WOONSOCKET, Rhode Island: The major American pharmacy chain CVS Health announced this week that it would offer three brands of over-the-counter COVID-19 tests nationwide starting this week.
The new tests are designed to expand access to Covid testing in the United States.
Industry observers said that home testing is being offered to assist schools and offices as they reopen in the coming months.
CVS said it would sell tests from Australian diagnostic test maker Ellume, Abbott Laboratories and LabCorp. The tests do not require a prescription and can be used by individuals, regardless of whether they display COVID symptoms.
Abbott also announced that its tests would be available at Walgreens and Walmart.
The tests are expected to be sold in packs of two for $23.99.
The tests will also online be sold by Walmart and Walgreens.
Two of the tests, Ellume and Abbott's test, can deliver results in 15 minutes. The LabCorp's test provides results in one to two days.
