SINGAPORE - Just before the highly anticipated summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Singapore deported two journalists for trespassing.

According to reports, the two male South Korean journalists, who represented the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) News trespassed at the North Korean ambassador’s house.

The two journalists were reportedly not accredited as media personnel in Singapore and were expelled after being arrested on Friday.

Singapore’s Law and Home Affairs Minister Kasiviswanathan Shanmugam issued a statement saying, “I think it’s a bad idea in any country to break into ambassador’s residences. No different in Singapore. Case closed. They have been asked to leave.”

Following the arrests, KBS apologized for the actions of its journalists during an evening show.

Meanwhile, reports noted that a third journalist and an interpreter are also under investigation and if they are found guilty of criminal trespass, they will face up to three months in prison and a fine of 1,500 Singaporean dollars ($1,125).

With all eyes on the Trump and Kim Jong Un summit, security in the city-state is tight and authorities have been preparing for weeks to avoid any security lapses.

Speaking to reporters, Shanmugam said that several people have already been prevented from entering the country.

The country is said to have refused entry to a person from “a regional country,” pointing out that the person had been visiting websites about suicide bombing.

The summit is currently underway at Singapore’s Sentosa Island.

Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong believes that the event will cost Singapore around $20 million to host.

Loong estimated that security will account for approximately half of the total estimated bill.
