Bangladeshis angry about Myanmar incursion into oil areas

South Korea News.Net
Tuesday 4th November, 2008

Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Touhid Hossain has gone to Myanmar to warn it against further exploration in the Bay of Bengal, where a territorial dispute remains unresolved.

Dhaka has complained that three exploration vessels looking for hydrocarbons, escorted by two Myanmar warships, which intruded into Bangladesh's territorial waters Saturday, are yet to be withdrawn.

Bangladesh also has similar complaints with India.

Maritime boundaries between the three countries remain un-demarcated.

Several Myanmar vessels are believed to be in what Bangladesh claims to be its territorial waters.

Three Bangladesh navy ships are confronting the ships sent by Myanmar to protect oil and gas exploration workers.
